My Familiar Unfamiliar, edition 3: Home Lands is so far a third presentation of a collaborative work of artists Nevena Aleksovski and Maja Babič Košir. Bound by their common positions of women, artists, migrants, and precarious workers, through their artistic dialogue and minimalist visual language, the artists are exploring various issues of a contemporary society.
This exhibition delves into the concept of home, homeland, migration, (non)belonging and the fragility of our identities within these contexts. Through their artistic dialogue artists explore notions of place, territory, hierarchy, as well as personal and collective memory. Their collaboration aims to shed light on the complexities surrounding our notions of home and identity, challenging preconceived notions and inviting viewers to question the dichotomy between belonging and displacement.
Within this exhibition, the artists provide a contemplative examination of fragility. Utilizing various mediums, they explore the delicate nature of our sense of home, both physical and emotional. Through their artwork, they examine the vulnerabilities that arise as individuals navigate issues of migration, displacement, and the ever-changing global landscape. They as well challenge conventional notions of homeland, urging viewers to question the impact of these systems on individuals.
